During your first appointment with Dr. Saltzman, we will help you navigate the New York State Department of Health Medical Marijuana Program and assist you with access through local marijuana dispensaries. Online certification will be done at the time of your visit. We also provide instruction on how to proceed to obtain your registry identification card and dispensary appointment.In addition, we will assess the optimal dose and CBD:THC ratio.
Cannabis is used to treat many medical conditions and side effects. For example, it is used to help cancer patient overcome nausea. It has been proven to help seizure patients reduce the frequency of seizures. For patients with Parkinson's disease, it helps to calm the body and reduce shaking. There are many diseases and disorders that cannabis is approved to treat via the NYC Department of Health including cancer, HIV and AIDS, and ALS. The list of approved treatments is comprehensive and in some cases, an advanced diagnosis is required. Dr. Saltzman will provide a personalized answer to this question during your first visit with her. Please see below for a list of approved conditions.

In many patients, yes. There are studies that show that medical marijuana helps people control chronic pain on the same level as opiates. The difference is that there are fewer risks of addiction when you use medical marijuana for pain control than when you ingest opiates. In fact, if your dose of medical marijuana is correctly calculated, there is less THC and more CBD. CBD does not produce a "high" but still delivers all of the positive benefits of marijuana. Dr. Saltzman will calculate the correct dosage for your body and condition during your first appointment.
